HOME SWEET HOME ~ Come See How We Transformed Our Home With Paint in Nine Weeks
A HUGE thank you to BEHR PAINT for sponsoring this post and this project! My favorable opinions of this paint are totally my own!
We did it! We moved in and painted almost every square inch of our new home in just over nine weeks! The only rooms that were left behind were the bathrooms but don’t worry, their turn will come!
If you are new to Our Uncluttered House let me bring you up to speed. We bought a “new to us” home that was just under two years old back in January, with a closing date of early April. It was a builder grade home with a few upgrades, some ugly brown walls and a whole lot of builder beige. We wanted to make it our own and thanks to our friends at Behr Paint we did just that.
Our new house is a three bedroom bungaloft and before we even got the keys, I knew the fireplace was going to be the focal point of our entire main floor but it desperately needed a makeover. Here is the before:

And here is the after, two coats of BEHR MARQUEE® “Limousine Leather”(MQ5-05) and she is stunning from top to bottom! We went on to paint an accent wall in our kitchen in “Limousine Leather” and because we loved it so much and felt like the vaulted ceilings enabled us to go big or stay home, we also did an accent wall in the living room. The rest of this large common space was painted out in BEHR MARQUEE® “Off White”(PPU-73), it has the softest, warmest undertones and compliments the black accents perfectly.
Here she is now painted in the stunning & sleek “Limousine & Leather”
Here are the befores of the kitchen and living room:
We used an Eggshell finish on the walls and the trim was freshened up with one coat of BEHR MARQUEE® “Ultra Pure White”(PPU18-06) in a Semi-Gloss finish. Here are the after photos, a total and complete transformation:
Because the main floor of our new home is so open, we chose to continue with BEHR MARQUEE® “Off White”(PPU-73) back into the combination mudroom/laundry room which flows off the kitchen. There is a lack of lighting in this area so it kept the space light and bright. Here are the before and after photos:
We also used “Off White” in the hallway leading to the front entrance of our home and chose to transition to the darker colour that we used in the loft, above the front door. I think it was the perfect starting point and this rich beautiful colour is BEHR MARQUEE® “Wet Cement” (HDC-NT-23). I love that it pulls both gray and green tones depending on the lighting and time of day. Here are before and afters of these spaces:

And continuing up the stairs into the loft which we have converted from a master bedroom, back into a tv/media room:
On our main floor we have the master and guest bedrooms. Both of these rooms were still the original “builder beige” and were ready for some colour. For our master bedroom we chose BEHR MARQUEE® “Mined Coal” (PPU18-18) with the same “Ultra Pure White on the trim. Here are the before and afters:
The guest room was being used as a home office when we bought the house. It is small and a bit awkward with the double closet doors and french doors so we decided to go light and airy, the complete opposite of the rest of the house, but it came together beautifully. The wall colour is BEHR MARQUEE® “Looking Glass” (MQ3-45) and the trim is “Ultra Pure White”. It is hard to believe this is even the same room.

And after:
The original owners of this home used the loft space as a master bedroom and the third bedroom was used as a large custom walk in closet. As you saw previously, we are using the loft as a tv/media room and this walk in closet needed to be used as a third bedroom. We removed some of the closet components and transitioned it back into a bedroom for our teenage son. The colour we used in here was a compromise between him and us and is BEHR MARQUEE® “Roadside” (MQ2-52). This bedroom came together better than we imagined when we began this project.
Here is what this room looked like when we viewed this home with our relator back in January:

And here it is now. There is also a bathroom on this level so it is the perfect teenage hangout!
Last but not least we decided to paint our interior doors black. I know what you’re thinking, my husband thought the same thing but they turned out FANTASTIC! We absolutely love them! I wish I could show you them all completed but since I always try to keep things real, I’ll be honest and tell you we still have a handful of doors to complete. And not only that, once they are completed later this week, some are missing hardware that is on backorder until the end of the month. The ones that are done are stunning and are the perfect finishing touch.
I cannot say enough great things about Behr Paint, specifically the BEHR MARQUEE® line. It is so easy to work with, the coverage is phenomenal and I can tell you that honestly and without hesitation after all of the dark colours we used in our home. We love love love these moody pops of colour scattered throughout and have zero regrets, not even with the black walls. Our new home is so warm and cozy, each room feels like a big hug!
So what’s next you might be wondering? If you ask my hubby he will say NOTHING! We are going to take some time to enjoy our new home in the coming weeks but I do have plans to freshen up the exterior doors and of course I will be using Behr Paint products.
Thanks so much for following along, I’ve enjoyed all your feedback and questions and love that I’ve inspired so many of you to step outside your comfort zones with paint colours. And remember, if you need help, don’t forget to check out the online Behr Colour Studio, it’s so much fun! You can also stop by your local Home Depot and talk to their paint experts, it’s the only place you’ll find Behr products and I guarantee they’ll be able to answer all your questions!
Until next time….
