Laundry Room Update: Cabinets + Wallpaper

Week 5 of the One Room Challenge has me feeling like we are making headway!  We got the upper cabinets installed, the appliances stacked and enclosed AND I finished ALL the wallpapering and painting.

Having strapping sons comes in handy!

Stacking success!

Let’s talk about the cabinets! We are using the pre-assembled Hampton Bay cabinets from Home Depot.  Originally we were not going to have upper cabinets because they weren’t in the budget.  The panels we were going to use to enclose the sides of the appliances were $260!  I started thinking that there had to be an alternative because I knew if I could find one, then I would reallocate those funds to upper cabinets, which would be put to great use!

Who says the washer and dryer need to be totally enclosed?  No one!  So we bought a small upper bridge cabinet and two MDF shelves that we had ripped down to be the same depth as the cabinet.  They were $16 a piece!!  And we think it looks pretty great AND it allowed us to add a nice big set up of upper cabinets, a total win!

We purchased our stacking kit on Amazon for under $60 and once it had been attached to the washer (it was silver) I immediately knew I had to paint it white.  Luckily my hubby humours me and he took it off and let me work my magic with spray paint.

A silver stacking kit from Amazon spray painted white@

We also had to use our Hole Saw to drill through all the cabinets to route our dryer vent which is in the corner of the laundry room where the drawers are located. It went fairly smoothly and I finally was able to do laundry again this weekend! Yay!

I also decided to tackle the rest of the wallpaper on Thursday. It was a long day but totally worth it.  I’m especially glad I wallpapered inside the closet.  It was already so light and bright after taking the doors off, the wallpaper totally transformed it. I’m especially thankful for my hubby trimming wallpaper for me after work last week!

Next up on here is some shelving, drying rods and a barn door! Oh, and some puck lights, my faves from Amazon.

Having the wallpaper and painting done has also confirmed that my new runner from Mohawk Home is going to be PERFECT in this space!

Coming up for Week 6 is new lighting which we badly badly need!  We are going from a single light bulb to a gorgeous six light chandelier because who says chandeliers are just for dining rooms???

We are also hoping to have the barn doors up which will leave us with the sink, faucet, plumbing for week 7…nothing like living on the edge!

There’s actually a very long list on our kitchen chalkboard of what remains to be done for this project but I think we can pull it off!

Let’s see what everyone has been up to for week 5….I’m continuously blown away by the creativity of both the One Room Challenge Featured Designers and fellow Guest Participants!

Thanks for checking in!! Three more weeks to go before the reveals…it will be here before we know it! Be sure to follow along on Instagram for all the behind the scenes fun!
